CrowdSurf is a free browser party game for 3โ€“20 players. Match the crowd to score, avoid the Outcast flag, and be first to reach the target score.

How to Play

  1. ๐ŸŽฎ

    Create or join a game

The host creates a game and shares a link or the 4-letter room code. Players can join in their browser, but we recommend following the install instructions for the best experience.

  2. ๐Ÿง

    Think like the crowd

Each round a question appears. Your goal is to predict what most other players will write, not necessarily what you truly think. You have 45 seconds.

  3. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

    Match the majority to score

Answers are revealed and grouped. Everyone in the biggest group earns a point. If multiple groups tie for the top, nobody scores that round.

  4. ๐Ÿด

    Avoid the Outcast flag

Each round, if exactly one player gives an answer nobody else matched, they receive the Outcast flag. While you hold the flag, you cannot win.

  5. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

    Chat between rounds

After each round, chat and comment while you review results. Tap Continue when you're ready. The host can move on anytime if people are taking too long.

  6. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    The LMAO bonus

Tap React on any answer and hit ๐Ÿ˜‚ to vote it funny โ€” if a majority of players agree, the answerer earns a bonus point.

  7. ๐Ÿ†

First to the target score wins

The host chooses the target score (4, 6, 8, or 10 points) when creating the game. Reach it without the Outcast flag to win. If multiple players tie at the target, the winning score bumps up by 1.

FAQ

How many players can play CrowdSurf?โ–ผ
CrowdSurf supports 3 to 20 players.
Do I need to download an app?โ–ผ

CrowdSurf runs entirely in your mobile browser. The host shares a link or reads out the 4-letter room code and players are in instantly.

Want a better experience? Install it as an app:

  • iOS: Tap Share โ†’ Add to Home Screen
  • Android: Tap the menu โ†’ Add to Home Screen

Installing gives you a fullscreen experience with no browser bars, a home screen icon, and faster load times on return visits.

How do I host a game?โ–ผ
Tap "Create Game," enter your name, and you'll get a room code and a shareable link. Send the link to your group or read out the code, wait for everyone to join the lobby, then tap Start.
What happens if there's a tie for The Outcast?โ–ผ
The Outcast flag only moves when exactly one player has a unique answer. If two or more players each have a unique answer, the flag stays with whoever currently holds it, or nobody gets it if it has not been assigned yet.
What happens if multiple players tie at the target score?โ–ผ
If multiple eligible players (without the Outcast flag) reach the target score in the same round, nobody wins yet. The target bumps up by 1 and play continues until one player pulls ahead alone. You can never win in a tie.
How does answer matching work?โ–ผ
CrowdSurf automatically groups answers that are identical or near-identical, handling typos, plurals, punctuation differences, and common synonyms like โ€œsofaโ€ and โ€œcouchโ€. It won't catch everything though. Abbreviations like โ€œNYCโ€ and โ€œNew Yorkโ€ will still end up in separate groups. The host can also manually merge or split any answers.
What can the host do?โ–ผ
  • During a round: Pause and resume the countdown timer.
  • On the results screen: Merge similar answers into one group, split a group apart, or undo a previous merge.
  • Between rounds: Control when to move to the next question.
  • At any time: Remove a player from the game, or transfer the host role to someone else.
What kinds of questions are asked?โ–ผ
Questions span pop culture, everyday preferences, hypotheticals, and general knowledge. Things like "Name something you'd find in every kitchen" or "What's the world's most popular sport?" The winning answer isn't the most correct one, it's the most popular one.
What happens if a player disconnects?โ–ผ
Players can rejoin at any time by opening the game link and entering the same name they used originally. Score and game state are fully preserved. If the host disconnects, another player is prompted to take over after a short grace period.
Can I chat during the game?โ–ผ

Yes. Tap the chat bubble button in the corner to send a message to everyone in the game.

  • Messages appear as toast notifications at the top of the screen.
  • Swipe a toast left or right to dismiss it early.
  • Chats sent while you're still answering won't appear to players who haven't answered yet, so no sneaky hints.
Can CrowdSurf be played as a drinking game?โ–ผ

Yes. No setup beyond opening a link on your phone. The most popular house rules:

  • Get the Outcast flag? Take a drink.
  • End up in a losing group? Take a sip.

Make it as intense or as light as you want.

How does CrowdSurf compare to Jackbox, Kahoot, or other party games?โ–ผ
  • vs Kahoot: No right or wrong answers. The goal is to predict what the crowd will say, which tends to be funnier and more social.
  • vs Jackbox: No TV, no console, no app download. Everyone plays on their own phone.
  • vs both: Completely free.
Is CrowdSurf free?โ–ผ
Yes, completely free.
